Central Park is pleased to announce Chains, featuring ten painters employing the motif of chain link in their work on view which is installed on chain link fencing, suspended floor-to-ceiling in the center of the gallery. Chains is the second group exhibition at Central Park since its founding in 2016.
Aglaé Bassens (b.1986, Mons, Belgium) lives and works in Paris, France. Bassens holds a BA in Fine Art from the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art, Oxford University (2007) and an MFA in Fine Art Painting from the Slade School of Fine Art, London (2011). Her work has been included in solo exhibitions at the Nars Foundation, Brooklyn, NY (2018); Crush Curatorial, New York, NY (2018); and Cabin Gallery, London, UK (2016). Recent group exhibitions include those at Newington Gallery, London (2019); The Manchester Contemporary with LLE Gallery, Cardiff, UK (2017); Contemporary British Painting Prize, London, UK (2016); Museum van Deinze en de Leiestreek, Deinze, BE (2014); Saatchi Gallery, London, UK (2013); and Jerwood Drawing Prize, London, UK (2012). The artist’s work is featured in New American Paintings (No. 134 Northeast Issue, 2018), and in 100 Painters of Tomorrow (Thames and Hudson, 2014). Her paintings of reflections, curtains, shadows and liminal spaces speak of the melancholy flux between absence and presence, attachment and detachment, the self and the other.
Casey Criddle (b. 1991) lives and works in Richmond, Virginia. Criddle holds a BFA in Painting and Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University (2013). Her work has been included in solo exhibitions at Shockoe Artspace, Richmond, VA (2018) and ADA Gallery, Richmond, VA (forthcoming 2019). Her work has been featured in New American Paintings (Issue 130, 2017). Criddle has shown work in group exhibitions throughout the Southern US.
Sydney Croskery (b. 1972, Los Angeles, CA) lives and works in Los Angeles. Croskery holds a BFA from San Francisco Art Institute (1995) and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (1999). Recent exhibitions include a solo at the Salon at the La Granada, Los Angeles (2019); and group shows at Baik Art, Los Angeles, CA (2018, 2019); Other Places Art Fair, San Pedro, CA (2019); Durden and Ray, Los Angeles, CA (2018); and Charlie James Gallery,
Anthony Keith Giannini (b.1984, Boulder, CO) lives and works in Detroit, MI and the Bronx, NY. Giannini holds an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design (2012). His work has been exhibited at Elizabeth Dee Gallery, New York, NY; Pace Gallery, New York, NY; The Sculpture Center, Queens, NY; The Bruce High Quality Foundation, New York, NY; Diane Rosenstein Gallery, Lost Angeles, CA; Harmony Murphy Gallery, Lost Angeles, CA; Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, Detroit, MI; University of Michigan Stamps Gallery, Ann Arbor, MI; Oliver Francis Gallery, Dallas, TX; BEERS London, London, UK; Galerie Christian Hosp, Berlin, DE. The artist will have a solo exhibition at Anna Zorina Gallery in 2020. His work will be included in the upcoming 13th Annual Gala + Auction at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit.
Becky Kolsrud (b. 1984, Los Angeles, CA) lives and works in Los Angeles. Kolsrud holds a BS from New York University (2006) and an MFA from the University of California, Los Angeles (2012). Recent exhibitions include a solo at Phil Gallery, Los Angeles, CA and group shows at Tif Sigfrids, Athens, GA; Fredericks & Freiser, New York, NY and Stephen Friedman Gallery, London, UK.
Judy Koo (b. 1991, Seoul, SK) is a Korean-American artist working in New Jersey and New York City. She is a 2019 MFA candidate in Painting at Hunter College at CUNY,, and holds BFA. in Visual Art from Mason Gross School of Art at Rutgers University (2015). Her work has been exhibited in university galleries and project spaces in New Jersey and New York City.
Nick McPhail (b. 1982, Laingsburg, MI) lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. He received a BFA in Painting and Ceramics from Michigan State University. His work has previously been exhibited throughout Los Angeles, CA; San Francisco, CA; New York and Michigan; with recent exhibitions at Holiday, Los Angeles, CA and Ochi Gallery, Ketchum, ID. The artist has completed residencies at Ochi Gallery, Ketchum, ID; 100 West Corsicana Corsicana, TX; and Vermont Studio Center, Johnson, VT. McPhail is also the founder of Half Gallery LA and Half Ceramics, both based out of his Los Angeles studio.
Jane Parshall (b. 1983, New York, NY) lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. Pashall holds a BA from Columbia University (2006) and an MFA from the University of California, Los Angeles (2011). Recent exhibitions include group shows at Ms. Barbers, Los Angeles, CA; Pøst, Los Angeles, CA and 356 Mission Road, Los Angeles, CA. Pashall recently contributed writing to We Spoke organized by Meital Yaniz at Women’s Center for Creative Work, Los Angeles
Rachelle Sawatsky (b. 1983, Richmond, CAN) lives and works in Los Angeles, CA and Vancouver, BC. Sawatsky holds a BFA from Emily Carr University, Vancouver and an MFA from the University of Southern California. She has exhibited her work internationally and it has been written about in Artforum, Frieze, Art Review, Canadian Art and The LA Times. Her critical and creative writing has been published in catalogues by the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, CA; Artspeak Gallery, Vancouver, BC; the Vancouver Art Gallery, Vancouver, BC; Night Gallery, Los Angeles, CA; Capilano Review, Vancouver, BC; and BookWorks, London, UK.
Trina Turturici (b.1986, San Jose, CA) lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. Turturici holds a BFA in Drawing and Painting from California State University, Long Beach in (2010) and an MFA in Painting from Boston University (2013). Her work has been exhibited at the Torrance Art Museum, Torrance, CA; New Image Art Gallery, Los Angeles, CA; Arvia, Los Angeles, CA.; Gallery ALSO, Los Angeles, CA and at various locations with Holiday, Los Angeles, CA; and Soft Core LA, Los Angeles, CA. Her process involves alternating between working spontaneously and from direct observation, which results in an uncanny and surreal portrayal of everyday life. Using a blend of varied forms, textures and colors, Turturici creates otherworldly dreamscapes out of simple objects and figures. Her works are infused with symbols, messages and imagery, both purposeful and accidental.
